Measurements and tests
Triggers
An analog trigger reports how far it is pulled, from 0 to 100% of its travel. Beside each trigger on the drawing is its meter: the live fill and percentage, and the highest it has reached.
Travel
Pull each trigger all the way and let go. Its meter should fill to 100% and fall back to 0%; one that stops short, or never quite comes back, shows it. For screen readers, the Sticks tab gives each trigger's pull in words, with the lowest and the highest it reached.
Where it counts as pressed
PadBench counts a trigger as pressed once it passes 18% of its travel, and as released only below 8%. With one point for both, a trigger resting near it would flicker across it and count presses no one made. On the meter, the solid mark is the press point and the dotted one the release.
Games set points of their own, so a trigger that reads well here can still feel early or late in one game.
Triggers that only click
Some triggers are buttons: a Switch pad's ZL and ZR, and the triggers of fight pads, arcade sticks and leverless boards. They read fully pulled or let go, so they have no meter. They light on the drawing as a button does, and the Controller tab times their presses like any button's.
